Second Term English Examination
Text
Education in the UK
Full time education is compulsory and free for all children aged between five and sixteen across England. This can be provided by public schools or private independent schools.
About 94% of pupils in the UK receive free education from public funds whereas 06% attend private schools.
Most English children begin their education at kindergarten usually from five to six years. Then, they receive their primary education in either an infant school and then a junior school or a primary school that combines both.
Children normally leave primary school at the age of eleven moving on to a secondary school known also as high school.
At the age of sixteen all students take an examination called the GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education). The students are tested in all school subjects such as: Maths, English literature and composition, Chemistry, Physics ...etc.
After completing the GCSE, some students leave school, others go on technical college while others continue for two more years and take a sets of exams called *A*level in three or four subjects. These exams determine if a student can be admitted to university.
